The nerves, muscles, joints and organs of the female pelvic area are closely connected. Weakness, stress or injury to any combination of these can cause pain, spasm or severe discomfort. Following a thorough examination of your complaints, a Bauman physical therapist will design a treatment program aimed at providing relief, and correcting your problem.
People of all ages – even children – can experience symptoms. Urinary and fecal incontinence can be the result of aging, chronic constipation, chronic coughing, child birth, chemotherapy, post prostatectomy, and weak pelvic floor muscles. Fortunately, most cases of muscle-related incontinence can be cured or vastly improved through physical therapy. The result? Freedom from pain, embarrassment and irritation.
Men can find relief utilizing physical therapy methods to treat dysfunction and pain in pelvis and pelvic floor, incontinence from post prostatectomy, and release of abnormal visceral holding patterns contributing to symptoms.
Our specialists use a technique called CranioSacral Therapy to treat chronic and acute headaches and migraines in patients ages 8 years old and up. CranioSacral Therapy (CST) strives to restore good health and healing in the rhythm of the central nervous system. Disruptions in this rhythm can produce migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, orthopedic dysfunction, emotional strain, and a host of other problematic issues. Once trouble spots are pinpointed, the therapist works to restore the natural flow of fluids, soft tissues, and bony connections to help the body heal itself.
Injuries, abnormal muscle tension and irritations to the tailbone area are slow to heal but therapy can drastically speed up recovery time. Specialty physical therapists can do manual mobilizations to this area to help reduce pain and improve positioning, and help you return to optimal function.
Trigger point dry needling is an effective physical therapy modality used for the treatment of myofascial pain and dysfunction. A solid filament needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point. A trigger point consists of a hyperirritable taut band in a muscle which inhibits its function and can cause pain. The benefit of dry needling is that it precisely deactivates the trigger point, leading to biochemical changes that reduce pain, as well as increase muscle performance. Your therapist will talk to you if dry needling if it is appropriate for your treatment.
Cupping is a traditional therapeutic method utilizing negative pressure to lift connective tissue, loosen rigid tissue and scars, and bring healthy blood flow and nutrition to stagnant areas. While cupping became popular during the 2016 summer Olympics, it is a method that has been used for thousands of years.
Do you hate going to the dentist because of the facial and jaw pain that follows? Does grinding your teeth give you pain? Do you have limited jaw range of motion? A dentist may diagnose you with TMD or TMJ or you may recognize these symptoms on your own. All these conditions can be addressed by a specialist with physical therapy. Visceral Manipulation (VM) was developed by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral. It is based on the specific placement of soft manual palpation to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. Strains in the connective tissue of the viscera can result from surgical scars, adhesions, illness, posture or injury. Tension patterns form causing the body to compensate and causes functional and structural problems. Gentle manipulations can improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.

Therapy can be very effective at relieving symptoms, shortening the duration of episodes, and decreasing the frequency of episodes, but it does not treat the cause.
